One man and sixteen police personnel were injured today during a protest held by members of Tablighi Jamaat community at a police station in Shamli district, police said.
They were protesting against the beating of a five-member team of their community yesterday by some youths in Delhi-Kandhla train, police said.
The protesters gheraoed the police station and pelted stones besides setting some vehicles on fire, SP Vijay Bhushan said.

To disperse the violent protesters, police used tear gas shells and cane charged them, Bhushan said.
In the cane charging one person was injured. Security has been tightened and extra police force has been deployed in the town, he said.
Five persons belonging to the Tablighi Jamaat community were beaten up last evening. The traffic on Saharanpur-Delhi highway was disrupted following the incident, they said.
The senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters assuring them of nabbing the absconding accused soon, they added.
