A 16-year-old girl was
murdered allegedly by a dejected lover in Kunnathur in nearby Tirupur district in the wee hours of today, police said.
Anandan (23), a painter by profession, was said to ne in love with the girl, studying in 10th standard and she spurned his love.
Knowing about it, her parents sent the girl to her grandmother's house, a year ago, police said.
As she came to Kunnathur to celebrate New year two days ago and after celebrations, Anandan approached her, when she was standing alone outside her house late last night.
Evenm as the girl refused to accept his love, Anandan removed a knife hidden behind and stabbed at her throat and ran away.
He went to his house and attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat, police said.
However, his parents took him to a hospital in Gobichettipalayam and from there to Salem Government Hospital, where he is said to be recovering.
The girl's noticed by her parents only this morning and on information police rushed to the spot and sent it for postmortem.
Investigation revealed that the murder done by Anandan, police said.
