160 chain snatching suspects picked up by Hyderabad police

In the wake of several chain snatching cases reported in the city recently, Hyderabad Police conducted a cordon and search operation under South Zone limits here and rounded up as many as 160 suspects.

As many as 15 different teams along with one video camera party in entire South Zone area took up the operation in the early hours of today to locate non-locals (belonging to other states), old offenders, suspects of property offenders etc and accordingly 52 old offenders, including nine old snatching offenders were located, police said.

Likewise, 40 other local suspects and 68 non locals, who belonged to West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were also rounded up, they said.
 

All 160 persons were referred to Central Crime Station, a wing of Hyderabad Police to obtain their finger prints and to probe, comparison, check the complicity of them with their records regarding any involvement in the criminal cases.

Apart from the suspects, a total of 91 vehicles were seized for non availability of vehicle documents with user of the vehicles.

"Two anti-snatching teams have been formed to curtail snatching offences and to detect the cases. To achieve/gain the confidence of the public, South Zone Police is striving hard to control the unlawful acts and will intensify surprise cordon and search operation to curtail the activities of chain snatchers," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Zone) V Satyanarayana said.
