17 dead, 18 hurt in Uttarakhand road accidents

17 persons were killed and 18 others injured in two separate accidents in Uttarakhand, police said today.

A private bus fell into a gorge today near Kirtinagar in Tehri district killing 13 persons and leaving 18 injured, they said.

31 passengers were in the bus when it fell into the gorge on its way from Tehri to Shrinagar killing seven on the spot. Six others succumbed to injuries in hospital, they said.

The bus driver is also among the deceased.

In another accident a truck fell into a gorge in Laata in Chamoli district late last night killing all the four persons on board.
 

The mishap took place when the truck was returning from Badrinath to Joshimath after supplying rations to the army.
