17 die in accident in Pakistan

At least 17 people, including women and children, have been killed when an over-speeding passenger van collided with a dumper and caught fire here.

The van caught fire after the collision as a result 17 people, including women and two minor kids, were burnt alive, police said yesterday.

The identity of the victims is not yet known.

The van carrying 18 people from Islamabad to Faisalabad collided with the dumper coming from opposite direction near Chiniot district, some 200 kilometres from here, due to over-speeding, Dunyanews reported.

The doors of the van got locked after the collision due to which the passengers were burnt alive, a local official Irshad Ahmed said.
 

Meanwhile, another official Munir Zia said the fire in the van was not caused by cylinder explosion.
