Altogether 17 employees of a food processing unit under Panchasayar police station area in the southern outskirts of the metropolis fell sick as ammonia gas leaked from the pipeline of the plant.
Police said the injured were admitted to a local hospital, but panic gripped the entire area adjacent to the factory.
Most of the employees of Digha Sea-food Processing Enterprise are women, the police said.
Police and fire services personnel rushed to the area soon after receiving information, while steps were taken to repair the leakage in the pipeline.
