The slab of the balcony of a house Friday collapsed in Madhya Pradesh' Chhindwara district injuring 17 persons, six of them seriously, a police officer said.
The incident occurred when people were watching a Muharram procession in the district's Royal Chowk area from the third floor of a building, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kamal Maurya said.
Maurya said that the balcony slab collapsed, leaving 17 persons injured, including Kotwali Police Station in charge Samarjeet Singh.
Six persons, who suffered grievous injuries, have been shifted to a hospital in Nagpur in neighbouring Maharashtra, he said.
The ASP said that the injured included eight women and six children.
