17 inmates booked for clash in district jail

Seventeen inmates were today booked in connection with a clash between two rival groups over old enmity in district jail here, which left ten of them injured, police said.

The two group of inmates clashed with bricks and rods in the jail here on May 7 in which 10 sustained injuries, jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh said.

On the basis of a complaint filed by the jailer Subhash Chand, police have registered a case against 17 inmates, he said.

The district authorities have recovered a mobile phone and several other objects including iron rods and sickles from the jail premises, he said.
 

District Magistrate D K Singh has also recommended that 12 inmates be shifted to another jail to maintain peace.

Later, six inmates were shifted to another jail.

After permission from the jail administration, six inmates including Jamshed, Gayyud and Waseel have been shifted to Saharanpur, Bijnore and Meerut respectively while Sonu and Anwar were shifted to Meerut.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the district jail after the clash between rival groups, which left ten of them injured.
