Gold worth Rs 2.5 crore was looted from the office of Manapuran Gold loan company here today.
The office is located in Dashmesh Nagar locality, one of the busiest areas on Gill road here.
The number of robbers who were equipped with pistols and revolvers were stated to be six. Some of them had been caught in the CCTV cameras installed in the office, police said.
Deputy Commissioner Police (DCP), Ludhiana, Naveen Singla said as per preliminary information the robbers have looted 17.5 kg of gold.
According to company officials, two women, two men and a security guard were present at the time of the incident.
Two of the robbers first came to the office as customers and after some time signalled their accomplices to come in.
The six then asked for the keys of the strong room from the employees and after getting the keys locked them in a room, police said, adding, the security guard did not react.
After remaining 15 minutes in the company office, they managed to escape with the booty taken from the lockers placed in the strong room, police said, adding, the matter is being investigated.
