In a crack down against liquor smuggling ahead of the panchyat polls, 17 persons have been arrested with huge quantity of liquor from different districts under Meerut division in last 24 hours, an official said here today.
Spokesperson of I-G Meerut, said that Guddu, wanted in excise case, was arrested today and has been sent him to jail.
Two smugglers were arrested last night and 65 litre liquor liquor was recovered from their possession, he said.

Gautam Buddha Nagar District Excise Officer Ram Ujagir Maurya today said, "Even raw liquor supply was seized at several districts."
Residents should not take liquor from candidates as it could prove fatal to them, Maurya said.
He also gave an account of other arrests and seizures made in last 24 hours.
In Meerut, Parikshit Garh police arrested two liquor smugglers Munna and Ram Kumar. They seized Maruti and recovered 100 ploy packs of raw liquor from it.
Similarly, in Daraula, police arrested one Sachin with seven cartons of smuggled liquor.
Kankarkheda police arrested two persons, Dharamvir and Mohit, and seized two cartons of smuggled liquor, while one Kumari Minu was arrested in Partapur.
As many as 96 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor was recovered from her possession.
In Bagpat, police seized 15 cartons of smuggled liquor from a car and arrested one Amit Malik.
Binoli one Esteem car was seized and seven cartons of smuggled liquor in Bambawad village. Two persons Subham and Dharmindar arrested in this connection.
In Saharanpur, Sarsava police arrested two persons Sunny and Ravi and seized tractor loaded with 30 cartons of smuggled liquor.
Three liquor smugglers Kuber, Sahdev and Vinay were arrested from Kalyanpur village with 12 cartons of smuggled liquor. Two motorcycles were also seized.
