Seventeen new members have been appointed in the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), a government order today said.
Orders to this effect were issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
These members, including two Chartered Accountants, an Advocate, Indian Revenue Service officers among others, will hold ranks as Member (Judicial) and Member (Accountant).
The ITAT is a quasi judicial institution and the second forum of appeal available to tax payers aggrieved under the IT Act and it functions under the Department of Legal Affairs in the Law Ministry.
