17-year-old student commits suicide in Jammu

A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide after the teenager was asked to bring his parents to school for his 'irresponsible' behavior.

Aman Sharma, a class XI student of a private school committed suicide at his residence at Shakti Nagar area here last evening, Station House Officer (SHO), Bakshinagar, Ashwani Kumar said.

The boy allegedly took the extreme step after the Principal asked him to bring his parents to school, Kumar said.

Aman had proposed a girl student of the same school, who then approached the principal and lodged a complaint against him.

The principal then called Aman to his chamber and asked him to bring his parents to school the next day, he said.
 

After going home, Aman locked himself in the storeroom and hanged himself from a ceiling fan, the officer said.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

However, family and some students who held protests here alleged that the school principal had harassed him due to which the student committed suicide.
