A 17-year-old girl was charred to death when fire broke out in a house at Kendupadara village in Odisha's Ganjam district today.
The deceased, identified as Trupti Behera, was cooking when the fire broke out in the thatched house, which was gutted in the blaze, police said.
The fire was suspected to have spread from the cooking chullha, they said adding some neighboring houses were also damaged partially.
Police and fire tenders from Aska rushed to the spot and controlled the blazes.
'We recovered the charred body from debris and sent for post-mortem," said a police officer.
She was alone in the house when the mishap occurred.
