174 swords recovered from two buses near Nepal border

More than 170 swords were recovered from two tourist buses, including one which was on its way to Nepal, police said today.

The second bus was going to a town close to the Indo- Nepal border, they said.

A joint team of SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) and local police last night recovered 93 swords from a tourist bus while 81 swords were recovered from another bus, SP Jugal Kishore said.

Police have arrested four persons in this regard, the official said.

"During interrogation, the accused in one of the cases admitted to purchasing the swords from Ajmer and taking them to Nepal. Cases under relevant section of Arms Act have been slapped and they have been sent to jail," he said.
 

Three of those arrested, have been identified as Munnawar, Irfan and Raju who belong to Bankey district of Nepal, while the fourth is a resident of Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, the SP said.

Officials said that it was suspected that the other bus was on its way to some districts near the Indo-Nepal border.

The UP Police, which was on alert in view of the festival season, will be carrying out a massive checking drive following this recovery, the SP said.
