1784 wild animals have died in rains and floods

1784 wild animals including lions have died recently due to excessive rains and floods in the country, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar informed Lok Sabha in a written reply.

"1,784 animal have died which includes ten Asiatic Lion, 87 Spotted Dear, 1670 Blue Bull, nine Black Buck, six wild Boar, one Porcupine and one Jackal," the minister said.

The minister said that it provides central assistance sought by the concerned state government for activities including rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats, Project Elephant and Project Tiger for various activities related to habitat improvement including soil and moisture conservation and water development activities.
