179 civilians, 250 security personnel killed in J&K in past 5

As many as 179 civilians and 250 security forces personnel had been killed in 1,191 militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in the past five years, the state government told the Assembly today.

As many as 179 civilians and 250 security forces personnel were killed in 1,191 militancy-related incidents in the period from 2009 to 2013, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a written reply to the question of PDP member Abdul Rehman Veeri in the Assembly.

The number of injured stood at 377 civilians and 555 security personnel, he added.

The Chief Minister said 1,212 cases had been registered against stone pelters during the unrest in the Kashmir Valley in 2010. Eighty-nine similar cases were filed in 2011.
 

Omar said as per the amnesty scheme announced by the state government in August 2011, amnesty had been granted in 230 cases of the year 2010-11 involving 1,811 persons. Of these 228 cases had been withdrawn while proceedings in the remaining two cases were under process, he added.
