18 dead of gastroenteritis and viral fever

Joint Director (Preventive Medicine) N Darlong said here medical teams with medicines were rushed to the affected areas in helicopter to control the spread of the diseases.

A constant check of the situation was also launched.

"The sub-divisional medical officer was asked to submit a report immediately about the situation," Darlong told reporters.

Asked, he said the unhygenic lifestyle of the people living in remote and hilly areas coupled with drinking of contaminated water from streams and rivulets without boiling were the main reasons for the spread of the diseases.
