An 18-hour general strike has been called by major insurgent organisations from midnight of October 14 in Manipur and Tripura to protest the merger of the two states with the Union of India.

Security measures throughout Manipur have been tightened and patrolling stepped by police to prevent movement of ultras, officials said.

CorCom has been formed by six major insurgent outfits of United National Liberation Front, Revolutionary People's Front, Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup, Kangleipak Communist Party of Kangleipak, People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and PREPAK-Progressive.
