An 18-year-old girl, who was depressed over her recently-announced NEET exam result, committed suicide in South Delhi's Saket area today, police said.

Sitara Trishna hanged herself at her Pushp Vihar home while her family members were away, said a senior police officer.

According to her parents, Sitara had appeared for the NEET exam and secured a rank of 1833. Her name didn't appear in the first counselling list which had depressed her, police said.

Her father Trilochan Padhi works as a section officer in SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal). Today, when her mother had gone to the hospital run by SSB in RK Puram and her brother was away to school, she took the extreme step and hanged herself from a ceiling fan, police said.

While her mother was trying to call her, the calls went unanswered. Her mother then called a neighbour and asked him to check on her. By this time, her brother also returned from school and it was found that Sitara had committed suicide, said the officer.

Sitara was rushed to hospital where she was declared brought dead, police said.
