At least 185 officers, including five of the IAS cadre, were found absent from duty during a surprise check by officials in the Punjab Civil Secretariat here today, an official spokesman said.
During the surprise check by three teams from Departments of Personnel, Vigilance and General Administration, five IAS officials, seven of the Punjab Civil Services (PCS) and 173 subordinate officials were found absent, the spokesman said.
The surprise check of attendance was conducted to see the punctuality of officials.
"Explanations are called from the absentees. Departmental proceedings shall be initiated against the officials who have been found absent from time to time.
"Those officials who were found absent but there is no past record of absenteeism, will have to submit leave application and shall be administered warning to remain regular and punctual in future," the spokesman said.
