19 Maha political parties get SEC notice

As many as 19 registered political parties have been served show-cause notices by Maharashtra State Election Commission for failing to submit their annual financial audits and statements of income tax returns.

As per rules, a political party is expected to submit the documents to the election commission by June 30.

The state election commission said the 19 parties were registered in 2005 and they had not submitted the necessary documents since 2005 till 2015.

"The parties had not submitted the complete documents for all these years," the commission said.

Prominent among the parties are RPI (A) led by Ramdas Athawale, Peasants and Workers Party (PWP), Swabhimani Paksha, Lokbharati party, Jan Surajya Shakti party.
 

Athawale is a Rajya Sabha MP, Raju Shetty is an MP of Swabhimani Paksha, PWP and Lok Bharti have one MLC each, while the PWP also has three members in the state assembly as well.
