190 kg ganja seized

Over 190 kg of ganja was today seized near here and cases were registered against two persons in this connection, Narcotics Control Bureau officials said.

A team of NCB officials intercepted a car at nearby Chengalpattu, about 50 km from here, and seized 191 kg of the contraband from the possession of Ganesan and Raja, a senior NCB official said.

Both hail from Cumbum in Theni District, according to a release from A Bruno, NCB Zonal Director.

"The contraband sourced from Andhra Pradesh was found packed in 95 square-shaped packets," it said.

The two were booked under different sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

 

In a separate incident at Madurai yesterday, NCB officials seized over one lakh Alprazolam Tablets and 97 bottles of Codeine (K-COD) syrup from a person yesterday.

Perumal, manager of a medical shop in Theni, "was illegally selling the controlled drugs," there, the release said.

He was also booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, it added.
