190 sovereigns of gold burgled in Chennai, Salem

Police said 110 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 were burgled from a house in Salem city today.

The inmates had gone to Bangalore and when they returned they found the window panes broken and the valuables missing. The burglars had also consumed food and liqour in the house, police said.

In the second case, gold ornaments weighing 80 sovereigns and over Rs 70,000 were burgled from a house in the outskirts of Chennai.

The inmates had gone to attend a function in the city and when they returned to their residence last night, the lock was found broken and the ornaments and cash missing, police said.
