Altogether 198 candidates have filed nomination papers for the fifth and final phase of Lok Sabha election in West Bengal on May 12, Election Commission officials said here today.
The 17 Lok Sabha constituencies that will go to the poll in the fifth phase are Behrampore, Krishnagar, Ranaghat, Bongaon, Barrackpore, Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbour, Jadavpur, Kolkata (South), Kolkata (North), Tamluk, Contai and Ghatal.
"At the end of filing of nominations in this phase, 20 candidates have submitted their papers from Kolkata (North) and 17 from Diamond Harbour," state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Gupta said here today.
"Fifteen candidates each have filed papers from Barrackpore and Kolkata (South), followed by 14 from Barasat, 13 from Jadavpur, 12 from Bongaon, ten each from Krishnagar, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Tamluk and Ghatal, nine each from Ranaghat, Dum Dum and Basirhat, eight from Baharampore, and seven from Contai," Gupta said.
