2,020 Gelatin sticks and detonators recovered, one arrested

One person was arrested after the police recovered explosives being transported from adjoining West Bengal to Pakur district today, a senior police officer said.

Addressing a press conference here, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Pakur), Kishore Kaushal, said acting on a tip-off that a consignment of explosives was being transported to the district from West Bengal, the police started checking vehicles and intercepted a Bolero at Nagarnavi under Malpahari police station limits this morning.

Following the search of the vehicle, the police recovered 2,020 Gelatin sticks and detonators stuffed in five sacks, which were being transported from West Bengal to Pakur.

The vehicle has been impounded, Kaushal said adding, the owner of the vehicle, Noorchand Sheikh, managed to escape but his driver Hasrat Sheikh was arrested.
 

The explosives were to be delivered to one Ajmail Sheikh of Sitapahari village under Sadar block of the district, the SDPO added.
