A truck carrying around 2,100 ducks illegally was today intercepted by Agra police with two persons having been arrested in this connection, a Delhi-based wildlife body said.

The ducks were being transported illegally from Karnataka, NGO Wildlife SoS said, adding that the driver and another occupant of the vehicle were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

There was also violation of the Bureau of Indian Standards norms in moving the ducks in a vehicle, they said.

The ducks have been placed in the custody of the NGO.

"We are thankful to local police for being so alert. There are certain rules and guidelines stated in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, that must be followed, which in this case were clearly violated," said Geeta Seshamani, co-founder Wildlife SOS.
