2.28 lakh journalists work for China's state media

China, where the media is owned and controlled by the state, has over 2.28 lakh journalists holding valid press cards, according to official figures.

Nearly 84,000 journalists worked for newspapers and over 6,000 for periodicals, said the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT).

About 2,800 journalists were employed by agencies, over 1,34,000 by radio, TV stations or production firms, and about 1,100 by news websites, it added.

About 39 per cent of the journalists were aged between 30 and 40, and 33 per cent were aged between 40 and 50.

Men accounted for over 51 per cent of all journalists.
 

China has designated November 8 as the 'Journalist Day', the date the young Chinese journalists' association was formed in 1937. China will celebrate the 18th Journalist Day tomorrow.
