2.43 cr students benefited from Central schemes for minorities

A total of 2.43 crore students including 1.24 crore girl students benefited from three Central schemes for youngsters from minority communities during the year 2012-13 to 2014-15, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi shared the information in response to questions relating to scholarship schemes meant for minority community girls and efforts taken by Government to promote education amongst them.

According to the Minister, a total of 2,43,84,966 students including 1,24,50,902 girls were benefited by pre-matric, post-matric and Maulana Azad National Scholarship for Meritorious Girl Students during the period.

The Government released funds worth Rs 4348.80 crore to provide scholarships to the students during the period.
 

The Minister informed these schemes are implemented in all states and Union Territories.

On quality of education provided to girls in Assam, the Minister said, "As per India Human Development Report 2011 of erstwhile Planning Commission, the literacy rate of females belonging to major socio-religious communities of Assam was more than the national average of females in 2007-08. No special financial package for education of minority girls has been proposed for any state/UT including Assam by this Ministry.
