The district administration has procured 2.67 lakh tonnes of paddy during this Kharif season in Nagapattinam district, District Collector S Pazhanisamy said today.
In a press release, the collector said 283 Direct Purchase Centres (DPCs) had been openedfor paddy procurement this year and nearly 95 per cent of the harvest had been completed in the district as on date.
Stating that the arrival of paddy for procurement had considerably reduced now and 187 procurement centres have been closed in phases since March 3, he said 96 DPCs continue to function following appeals from the farmers to help them sell their produce at the centres.

The Collector further said arrangements have been made to purchase the paddy from farmers through mobile procurement centres, in areas where theyhave no access to DPCs.
The payment for the procured paddy was being remitted to the bank accounts of respectivefarmers directly, he said while appealing to them to sell their produce at the DPCs and derive the benefits.
