2,875 rioting cases in UP till June, house-breaks cases spike

As many as 2,875 cases of rioting were reported in Uttar Pradesh during the first half of this year as compared to 2,854 last year, a top state police official said.

Incidents of house-breaks have also increased to 3,893 from 2,941.

However, the figure of number of murders has come down slightly as compared to corresponding period last year.

"There were 2,363 incidents of murders in past six month this year (Jan 1-Jun 30)...The figure of murder was 2,475 in the same period last year," IG law and order RK Vishwakarma told reporters here.

The incidents of rioting have increased, he said adding "2,875 incidents were reported in first six months this year as compared to 2,854 last year".
 

When asked about the incidents of rapes, Vishwakarma said figures were not ready.

The IG, however, said that over 75,000 complaints were received in 'Women Power Line' and most of them were addressed.

"Attempts are being made to ensure that law and order is maintained in the state," Vishwakarma said.

When asked about the security arrangements made during the ongoing month of Sawan and Ramzan, Vishwakarma said a video-conferencing with officers in district will be held tomorrow and necessary directives will be issued while reviewing the arrangements.
