2 Afghan refugees shot dead in northwest Pakistan

In the first incident of its kind, armed men today shot dead two Afghan refugees in Abbottabad district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwest Pakistan, local police said.

According to reports, some unknown armed men opened fire at a vehicle near Ayub Medical Institute, killing two persons on the spot who were later identified as Afghan refugees.

The incident is the first time that Afghan refugees have been targeted in the area.

The police is investigating the matter to ascertain the real cause of the killings as to whether it was personal enmity or an act of terrorism.

The bodies were shifted to hospital for post mortem.
