Two persons have been arrested for allegedly cheating credit card holders and purchasing gold coins online with their cards, police said today.

Jay Shankar and Rajesh Rawat, both MCAs, were arrested in separate raids by a team of Crime Branch officials from Jhandewalan and Motiyabagh on Friday, said Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Police Ravindra Yadav.

Following a complaint by Gautam, a businessman, whose credit card was fraudulently used for online purchase worth around Rs 2.5 lakh, an FIR was registered at Kalkaji Police Station on April 8.

Police said the duo used to call up and meet people who had registered themselves for new credit card or those who already have one and obtain their card details and identity proof.

They had also registered themselves with an online business aggregator looking for possible victims, police said.

After getting the details, the accused used to file an a missing mobile phone complaint online, in the victim's name and apply for a new SIM card of the same number, the official said.

This way the targeted victim was blocked from getting alerts of transaction from the credit card. The duo mostly purchased gold coins through online shopping portals, he said.

Two gold coins purchased by them along with nine mobile phones, 22 SIM cards, 77 photographs of different persons and other incriminating material were seized, police said.

Five other victims have been identified who had lodged complaints with local police. Efforts are on to locate other victims, the police officer said.
