Two persons were arrested today for allegedly extorting money from government officials on the pretext of hushing up 'departmental inquiry' against them.

Pradip Kumar and Pramod Kumar, who were alleged to be members of a gang involved in the extortion were arrested here by the Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh Police, an STF spokesperson said.

The gang used to extort money from government officials by saying that a memorandum has been submitted against them in the Chief Minister's Office by someone and a departmental inquiry was going on, he said.

They also threatened the officials by saying that there is a move to dismiss them and used to extort money for hushing up the probe, the spokesperson said.

Investigation into the case is underway, he added.
