Two persons, the husband of a Panchayat Mukhiya and his bodyguard, were arrested today for having fired in the air on Sunday upon successful completion of the human chain held across Bihar as part of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's campaign against dowy and child marriage.

The incident of firing in the air at Baliya Panchayat under Sangrampur block of the district came to light after its video footage went viral on social media, Superintendent of Police, Munger, Ashish Bharti said.

He said "the video footage showed Lalan Singh, whose wife is the Mukhiya, and his bodyguard firing in the air to celebrate the successful completion of the event".

"Since celebratory gunfire of this type is prohibited under the new Arms Rules, a case was lodged against the duo and they were arrested", Bharti said.

The state-wide human chain, said to be over 13,000 kms long with more than four crore participants, was formed at the instance of the Chief Minister, who had launched a campaign against dowry and child marriage on October 02 last.

The human chain was formed on January 21, exactly a year after a similar event was held in support of the state's prohibition policy whereby sale and consumption of alcohol has been completely banned.
