The police today arrested two men for allegedly injuring a man by opening fire at him here last month and seized a country-made pistol from them.

"The police have arrested two of the four persons accused of firing upon and injuring a man on May 29 at Rahon Road here," city Station House Officer (SHO) Raj Kumar said.

The main accused, Satwinder alias Sunny of Bhattan mohalla in Garhshankar, and his accomplice, Gurpreet Singh alias Soni of Jorian mohalla in Garshankar, were arrested by the police at the Barnala gate on Chandigarh Road here, he added.

A .315 bore country-made pistol, allegedly used by the accused in the crime, was seized from them, Kumar said.

At the time of their arrest, the accused were being accompanied by two other men on another two-wheeler -- Kaka and Raja Bhatti -- both residents of Garhshankar, who managed to flee.

The accused had opened fire and injured Labhpreet Singh alias Laddi of Bhajjlan village when the latter, along with two of his friends, were going on a motorcycle to get fuel from a pump near the R K Arya College playground, Kumar said.

On the basis of Laddi's statement, the police had lodged a case under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act.

A hunt was on to nab the two other accused in the case, Kumar said.
