Spanish police said they have arrested a man and a woman in the city of Algeciras at the southwestern tip of Spain on suspicion they are linked to the Islamic State group.

Police say the two, who were preparing to leave the country bound for Morocco, allegedly were part of a support group for IS that has contained other jihadists who have previously staged several suicide missions in Syria.

According to a police statement, those arrested today are a Moroccan man and a Spanish woman who both lived in the southern city of Granada.

Investigators discovered that a brother of the arrested man had died in a suicide attack and were searching the couple's home. The couple's son was taken into the care by Spanish social services.
