2 arrested Lankan nationals remanded in judicial custody

Two Sri Lankan nationals, arrested after they landed here on board a fibre glass boat, were today remanded in judicial custody till August 5.

Varunakulasur and Jeyabal Pushbakumar, in their 30s, arrested yesterday on charge of illegal entry into the country, were produced before Judicial Magistrate G Saravanan, who remanded them to judicial custody.

The two Lankan nationals, who had claimed themselves to be fishermen, were shifted to the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai, police said.

The duo had told police that they had put out to sea from Thalai Mannar in northern Sri Lanka in the boat yesterday and reached here after losing their way.
