Two men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a string of auto thefts in Delhi and NCR and police recovered pistols and 10 stolen bikes from their possession.

Acting on a tip off that Firoz alias Rahil Babu (35) and Firoz alias Tamatar (24) were going to Meerut to commit a crime, police apprehended the duo yesterday from MB Road, police said.

The accused allegedly fired at police when asked to surrender but were finally overpowered, they said.

During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed that they were on way to kill the family of a childhood friend, who had eloped with Tamatar's cousin sister, they said.

Police seized a country-made pistol of .32 bore and another country-made pistol of .315 bore along with 15 live rounds from them.

"Following the tip off, a trap was laid and barricades were set up opposite Kaya Maya Picket on MB Road. At around 5.15 PM, the duo arrived on a motorcycle.

"When they were asked to stop, they tried to speed away and in the process hit the police barricade. The duo started running towards Adilabad jungle," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) P Karunakaran said.

When they were asked to surrender, they fired at the police party, he said, adding that police party retaliated in self defence and finally, they were overpowered.

During interrogation, the duo allegedly disclosed their involvement in many cases of auto-lifting.

"The most chilling part is that they were on way to wipe out an entire family of one Abdul Samadh, who hails from their native village and was the childhood friend of Firoz alias Tamatar. Samadh had eloped with his cousin sister.

"Infuriated by this, Firoz had planned to kill Samadh, his uncle Babu and others. After killing the family, they wanted to eliminate their sister as well," Karunakaran said.
