Two alleged auto lifters were arrested following a clue gained from CCTV footage about one of them having a slight limp, police said today.

With the arrest of Pawan (23) and Shiv (20), police claimed to have worked out 15 cases of motorcycle thefts in south district.

In a case of motor vehicle theft registered at Defence Colony police station, the suspects were partially captured in a nearby CCTV camera but the footage was of low quality, said DCP (South) Ishwar Singh.

The footage was forensically enhanced and the improved footage pointed to a walking abnormality in one of the suspects, he said.

The snapshots and video clips of the footage were circulated among the beat staff.

On March 30, two persons who were moving in Sadiq Nagar, Sanwal Nagar on a motorcycle bearing a Rajasthan number, were observed by the beat staff.

Initially, their movements did not incite any suspicion. However, when they parked the vehicle, one of them was walking with a slight limp, said the officer.

The suspects were trailed and later detained and questioned. They were identified as Pawan and Shiv.

Pawan walks with a limp because he had an accident sometime back that had left him with a limp, police said.

He was working at a cyber cafe in Sant Nagar.
