2 BMC officials held for accepting bribe

Two assistant engineers of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) were today caught for by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

Assistant engineers Sandeep Rajput (45) and Pushkar Meshram (35) of H-West Ward Buildings and Factories in suburban Bandra had demanded Rs 41 lakh from the complainant firm for "not taking action" in a case against it, the ACB Mumbai unit said.

The duo settled for Rs 10 lakh and asked the complainant to keep the money inside a car parked in suburban Santracuz, it added.

Following a complaint, a trap was laid and the duo was caught red-handed while taking the bribe, a release said.
 

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered and further probe is underway, the ACB said.
