Two BSF jawans were today allegedly attacked by cattle smugglers from Bangladesh at Balerdhepa, a village near the Indo-Bangla international border in Sipahijala district.

Sub-divisional Police officer (SDPO) of Sonamura, Ashok Kumar Sinha said the two were reportedly attacked by Bangladeshi cattle smugglers near the zero point when the jawans tried to stop them from smuggling.

The jawans were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel by the smugglers and a flag meeting between the BSF and BGB was now in progress on the border, the official said.

Trouble began when a group of Indian villagers in league with a group of Bangladeshis were allegedly smuggling cattle through the border village in the morning and a group of BSF jawans gave them a chase, the SDPO said.
