Police say two passenger buses have collided head-on in southeastern Brazil, killing at least nine people and injuring 46.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight near the city of Teodoro Sampaio west of Sao Paulo.

The city's police department said university students were on one bus and passengers returning from Paraguay were on the second one.

Both of the bus drivers and four students were among those killed in today's accident.

Police say they don't know how many passengers were on each bus and that the causes of the accident are still unclear.
