2 chain snatchers held in AP; jewelry worth Rs 17 lakh seized

Two youths from Maharashtra were arrested here by the Cyberabad Police for their alleged involvement in chain snatchings in different parts of the city and stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 17 lakh were recovered from them.

Shaik Baker Ali and his friend Shaik Javed Ali, both hailing from Beed district, were nabbed during vehicle checking at Nagole X road by LB Nagar and Kushaiguda Police in a joint operation yesterday, police said today.

Both are members of an Irani gang of chain snatchers.

Gold chains and mangalsutras (necklaces) weighing about 62.5 tolas (625 grams) and a bike were seized from their possession.
 

The duo committed 25 chain snatching offences in the limits of various police stations of Cyberabad Commissionerate and Hyderabad city by targeting and following women on stolen bikes, police added.
