Two constables have been sent to police lines for allegedly torturing a person in custody.

Constables Rohit Kumar and Gaurav Kumar have been sent to police lines on the orders of Senior Superintendent of Police Nitin Tiwari and an inquiry has been ordered into the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police Jagdish Sharma said today.

Shehzad was taken into custody on charges of cattle theft on Monday and allegedly tortured in the lock-up of Mirzapur police station.

Following this, the villagers protested at the police station demanding action against the officials, he said.

The villagers alleged that police subjected Shehzad to 'third-degree torture'.
