2 cops arrested on bribery charges

The anti-corruption vigilance officials today arrested an Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police in Mayurbhanj district on charges of accepting bribe.

The two police officers were identified as Kaptipada police IIC Brajabandhu Nayak and ASI Rabi Narayan Suar.

The two were arrested by the Vigilance sleuths of Baripada division while taking bribe of Rs 20,000 from one Tapan Barik of Kaptipada village.

Sources said, the police officers demanded Rs 40,000 from Barik for releasing his bike which was in police custody following a group clash at Kaptipada on September 29.

Vigilance DSP Santosh Kumar Samantray and other staff participated in the raid on the two police officers.
