Nine persons, including two corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), were arrested on Friday for allegedly throwing ink at an official of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) at Sion here, police said.

The incident took place in the afternoon at the office of MPCB principal scientific officer, Amar Supate, they said.

"Two corporators - Ruksana Siddhiqui (43) and Akhtar Abdul Qureshi (52) - from the eastern suburbs had gone there with a delegation to discuss a petition of a private firm, which is being heard in a court," an official said.

While they were discussing the issue with Supate (54), a few members of the delegation threw ink at him, he said.

"Following a complaint in this regard, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and nine persons, including two corporators, were arrested," the official said.
