2 criminals surrender after encounter

Two wanted criminals surrendered after an encounter with police at Bhagwat Bhakti Ashram in the adjoining area of Rampura village, police said today.

Neeraj Poonia, carrying an award of Rs 5 lakh on his head, and his accomplice Manjit, both belonging to Karnal, were travelling in an SUV yesterday evening when the encounter took place at Bhagwat Bhakti Ashram area, police said.

After the encounter, both surrendered to the police.

Police have seized two pistols, five live cartridges and the vehicle from them, and registered a case of attempt to murder and under sections of the Arms Act against the duo, Rewari SP Nazneen Bhasin said.
 

Preliminary interrogation revealed that they were involved in 14 cases of crimes including murder, robbery, loot in Karnal, Hisar, Jhajjar and Rewari districts, Bhasin said.

At the expiry of their one-day police remand, they were again today produced in a local court which remanded them in judicial custody, the SP said.
