2-day meet to discuss Swine Flu control measures in Shillong

A two-day regional consultative conference on health will be held from April 24 aimed at sensitising health officials on the issues of Swine Flu and other infectious diseases and on control measures with contingency plans.

Top doctors and specialists from health institutions in the North East, including the NEIGRIHMS would come together for the program at the North Eastern Council secretariat (NEC) here on April 24 and 25, an NEC release said.

The objective of the conference was to sensitise the functionaries on the issues of Swine Flu and other emerging infectious diseases and facilitate for the control measures and contingency plans in their respective states under national infection disease control programmes, it said.
 

The conference would have discussions/sessions on critical health issues to be presented by Dr Himansu Chauhan, IDSP Director, National Centre for Disease Control, New Delhi.

The conference was the first attempt of North Eastern Council to involve experts from medical colleges, state governments, private health care providers and some of the top experts from the country for discussions on Swine Flu and other emerging infectious diseases in Shillong, the release said.

In view of the recent rise in the cases of Swine Flu and other virus, the conference would establish a platform for health sector in North East Region to prepare themselves for fighting against these diseases, the release added.
