Two persons died while 15 others were taken ill after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Dharhara village here.

Ram Govind Bind (50) and Kundan Gupta (55) died last night while 15 others were taken ill after consuming spurious liquor in Dharhara village, SP Anis Ansari said, adding that the affected have been admitted to a hospital.

The locals said that a candidate of the upcoming Gram Pradhan elections had thrown a party in the village where the victims had allegedly consumed spurious liquor.

They also alleged that another person, Keshav Bind (65), died in the incident but District Magistrate Sharad Kumar Singh clarified that the elderly man died due to illness.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered and the real cause of the death will be known only after proper investigation, the SP said, adding stern action would be taken against those found guilty.
