2 dead in accident on Mumbai-Goa highway in Ratnagiri district

State president of Swabhiman Sanghatana Subhsh Patil, and another member, Ashwin N Patil, died in an accident on the Mumbai-Goa national highway in the district this afternoon, police said.

The accident took place at around 3.30 pm near Parchuri village in Sangameshwar tehsil when Patil and other workers of the organisation were returning after attending the rally of senior Maharashtra minister Narayan Rane in the Sindhudurg district.

Their car got hit by a container-truck while trying to overtake it around a bend, police said. Both Subhash Patil and Ashwin Patil were declared dead at the government hospital in Sangameshwar.

Another person who was travelling with them also suffered injuries.
 

Swabhiman Sanghatana is headed by Nitesh Rane, Narayan Rane's son.
